About
The city council had previously postponed the third reading to re-zone the site to light industrial, hoping to give the residents more time to find suitable housing. Despite this, the redevelopment proceeded, and the former homes are now being dismantled.
The situation at Shady Acres has raised concerns about the often vulnerable people who live in mobile home parks slated for redevelopment. It underscores the urgent need for more affordable housing in West Kelowna and perhaps suggests we might do well to stop dismantling it. The Westside Salvation Army has noted that affordable housing, or the lack thereof, is a major issue they encounter daily.
